This series has been constructed from records that had not been maintained in original order in storage, and part of the series had also been damaged by water and mould in 2017 and recovered in 2018. The series has been created to represent the apparent function of the records.

Function / Content

This series consists of correspondence relating to the disappearance of Azaria Chamberlain and subsequent convictions of Lindy and Michael Chamberlain. Documents include expert opinions on evidence, submission for a judicial inquiry (1985), statements, lists of exhibits and correspondence regarding the submissions to the Royal Commission into the Conviction of Lindy and Michael Chamberlain, letters to Coroner Galvin relating to the first inquest, and tape and transcript of a rally held in Brisbane to protest Lindy Chamberlain's guilty verdict; and records of the 1988 appeal to overturn the guilty verdicts following the pardoning of the Chamberlains.
